Dry skin in perimenopause is dry. Desert-level dry. So dry that you may see thousands of specks of flaking skin inside your leggings and socks, particularly in winter. This dryness can sometimes cause the most insane itching, too. Frequently it’s arms and legs that itch, but often peri women experience itching elsewhere too, such as the upper back. The itching can be intense*.
Your humidifier runs all day and night, but the flaking persists. Thick body creams work to a certain degree, but there is often the annoying side effect of stickiness that transfers to clothes and bedding.
Trader Joe’s is known for many delicious foodstuffs. Cookie Butter Ice cream. Frozen pain au chocolat that are to die for. Raspberry shortbread star cookies... so good.
Something TJs isn’t quite as well known for is its body products. In the height of our perimenopause dry skin, we discovered the Trader Joe's Hydrating Hyaluronic Body Gel Cream (more of a lotion, TBH) during a particularly snowy NYC winter. The dryness was off the scale, pun intended. When we first applied the lotion, it instantly felt soooo delicious. Really light and without any fragrance. It was actually so light, that our expectations for any moisturizing capabilities went out the window. Reader, we couldn’t have been more impressed. It absorbed like an absolute dream. We put on clothing almost immediately after application and there was zero stickiness. The real truth, of course, would be revealed the next day when we took off our pajamas. When we say there was no flaking… folks, there wasn’t one flake.

Furthermore, our skin was soft and smooth, in a way it hadn’t been in absolute years. Years! That hyaluronic element really showed up for us. Those bumps you get on your on upper arms? Gone.
Apart from the relief from itching, the best part is the price. $3.99! We love nothing more than an affordable highly effective solution to a frustrating issue. Now, if only Trader Joe's would bless us with an online store...
*Some peri itching won't be resolved with a body lotion alone
